Dedham, Mass., June 29, 2009 — Metatomix, Inc., a leading provider of semantic solutions to justice and public safety, financial services, manufacturing and life sciences organizations, today announced that Henry County, Georgia, has implemented its Active Warrant Alert Calendar (AWAC) to identify defendants appearing before the court with outstanding warrants, enabling court and law enforcement personnel to take appropriate action. Henry County has already seen an increase in the number of warrants leading to arrests since the implementation of Metatomix’s technology.
Henry County, with a population of nearly 200,000, is the first county in Georgia to integrate AWAC, which allows court officials to perform a comprehensive background check on subjects prior to trial. AWAC can flag warrants for any subject appearing for court events such as arraignment, pretrial, bond, motion, case management or traffic hearings. If an outstanding warrant is identified, booking and court officials are notified and can keep potentially dangerous criminals in custody and off the streets.
In Henry County, the system will crosscheck names of individuals scheduled to appear before Chief Judge Ben Studdard of the Henry County State Court with Henry County Jail and local warrant databases to confirm that no open warrants exist. Future expansion plans include connectivity to the FBI’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) as well as other municipal, county and state correctional facilities.
“Metatomix’s AWAC solution will play a critical role in ensuring public safety in Henry County,” said Chief Judge Ben Studdard, Henry County State Court.” AWAC will provide a more efficient process for conducting warrant background checks and will help keep dangerous criminals off the streets. We have already seen initial benefits of the implementation in the booking and pre-trial processes at the Court. Accurate, complete information helps the court make more informed judicial decisions.”
“Henry County’s decision to implement the Active Warrant Alert Calendar shows their commitment to providing efficient, cost-effective justice data sharing solutions,” said Metatomix President and CEO Jeff Dickerson. “Forward-looking organizations like Henry County are realizing the benefit of this technology and dramatically improving the way they conduct business. We’re delighted to be working with the County on this project and look forward to its expansion in the future.”
AWAC can provide court officials with consistent, accurate and timely access to warrant information from law enforcement agencies and court systems including local, state and national information systems. Previously, court personnel were required to log in to numerous computer systems to acquire information on a subject’s criminal history or previous warrants. The AWAC technology also allows for seamless expansion to include additional warrant databases such as state crime information centers, department of corrections databases, statewide jail population searches, sex offender registries and other specialized databases, among others.
In December of last year, AWAC was implemented as part of a statewide pilot program in Lee County, Florida. Within the first seven days of implementation, the technology identified 141 warrants that led to 16 arrests.
