Dedham, Mass., July 13, 2009 — Metatomix, Inc., a leading provider of semantic solutions to justice and public safety, financial services, manufacturing and life sciences organizations, today announced that its professional services and engineering teams have successfully completed training on the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) standard through the NIEM Practical Implementer’s Course delivered by the IJIS Institute.
The course, funded by The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), is specifically designed for NIEM implementers, developers and practitioners. The purpose of the course is to provide practical implementation strategies for data exchanges and methodologies using the NIEM standard. Metatomix’s employees completing the course were presented with hands-on exercises and case studies, and provided with post-training resources and support options.
Metatomix’s justice solution, the mtx Justice & Homeland Security Suite, utilizes the NIEM data model to ensure interoperability and reusability across the multi-agency nature of its product installations. The suite’s tooling has the ability to import and easily deploy a NIEM Information Exchange Package Documentation (IEPD) within its search and data exchange solutions. As a specification for data exchange that defines usage of data elements for data sharing, IEPD is the focal point of NIEM interoperability.
Through a partnership agreement between the DOJ and the DHS, NIEM was designed to enable jurisdictions to effectively and securely share critical information in emergency situations, as well as support the day-to-day operations of agencies throughout the nation. Using a common XML language, NIEM is specifically intended to standardize the format and metadata within the justice, intelligence, and other domains critical to information sharing across agencies and organizations.
“Metatomix is committed to the knowledge, understanding, and successful deployment of justice standards, so we’re proud to have our employees trained on NIEM,” said Metatomix Director of Product Management Christian Barr. “NIEM is a vital standard for ensuring timely and accurate information in the data exchange and discovery process, so our customers and partners directly benefit from our expertise in the standard.”
“Justice information sharing is a national imperative and the NIEM standard continues to play a key role in the evolution of information sharing initiatives,” said Paul Wormeli, executive director of the IJIS Institute. “We’re very thankful to the federal agencies that have funded the NIEM Practical Implementer’s Course, enabling both government agencies and companies such as Metatomix to use it to help their customers and partners ensure public safety.”
